Poutine isn't for everyone but Smoke's offers a huge variety of different types to try, truly something for anyone in your group. Generally, I'd say poutine is a heavy dish any one of their offerings will fill you up. The have a wide range of flavors and the service is pretty quick at all the locations I've been to. None of the locations are very large, but they don't need to be and there seems to be plenty of seating.

I gave 2 stars bc the dude was cool, and bc I made my bed here and now can't sleep in it.
And that's mainly bc it was risky to even fart halfway through the meal as I didn't plan ahead and wear my Depends.
I went ahead and got the drunken chicken and waffles, but I was sober, first mistake, second mistake was the bad diaper planning that I mentioned earlier, and third mistake will be leaving my hotel anytime in the next 12 hours.
All diarhheal decisions aside, I couldn't tell the "chicken" apart from the cheese curds which is kind of insane. You can get better chicken from the grocery store freezer at least 97 percent of the time.
But, at least one homeless man and his dog will not go hungry and that my friends is turning a negative into a solid, which hopefully my bowels will be by end of the week -

Since we were visiting during a holiday weekend, Smoke's was one of the few spots opened that focused on poutine. Us Americans are always down for a good poutine and I thought this place was decent, but not amazing.
The overall decor of the restaurant was interesting with its diner style seating and interesting designs n the walls. You order at the counter and are given a number they'll call to pick up your box of fries.
We ordered three types to share with two being pretty good and the last being a complete miss for us:
- Traditional Poutine - You really can't mess up the classic can you? Gravy on top was good but the cheese curds melted way too quickly into the rest of the box. Still, it was a good classic poutine for us.
- Korean Beef Poutine - We love KBBQ and this one sort of hits it there with the flavors. There wasn't a whole lot of meat in our poutine to compliment the gravy and cheese.
- Butter Chicken Poutine - PASS. The chicken tasted like it came out of a Subway restaurant and there was nothing "buttery" about our entire dish. It sounded good on paper but ended up being quite disappointing.
What this told me was that I need to stick with the traditional style poutine the next time I try a new place. -

Poutine is my once-in-a-while guilty pleasure. It's super heavy, but also incredibly delicious (when done correctly). Unfortunately, Smoke's Poutinerie just did not hit the spot for me.
When you walk in, there is minimal decor. This is fine because most people are looking to grab a quick bite and then leave shortly after anyways. However, the service is lackluster. Your order is taken and your food is delivered without much of a hello.
As for the food itself, the portion sizes are more than fair and everything I ordered looked and tasted alright... but there was just something missing. The fries could have been crispier, the gravy could have been hotter, and the toppings could have tasted a little less like mush.
In the end, I felt that the calories I just consumed were not worth it. After a cheat meal, you always want to feel like your decision to break a healthy cycle was justified. This was not the case. -

I can't imagine eating at this spot more than occasionally. We kind of knew what to expect and actually got what we asked for. The portions were big, food looked and tasted good, but I wish the fries were crispier. We ate quietly digging in to three buckets of gooey flavorful stuff until everything was gone. We ordered Traditional, Double Pork and Veggie Nacho. This location was packed when we arrived, but I think most people come just to stuff themselves and go. Possibly that's why we didn't have a problem finding a seat. Unfortunately nobody came to clean after those who just finished messy food, so we were seated at the dirty table.
I am sure there are many different approaches to making poutine. What we had was solid, satisfying hunger and needs for comfort food.
